1. Weather Forecast of local Weather-man Indrek Hein

Indrek Hein is a local farmer who has a hobby to predict weather based on the signs, changes and rythms he sees in nature, as well as on his personal daily records of last 20 years, made on his living place Kuusekäära Farm. Kuusekäära is situated right in the middle of floode area. Indrek is also local nature guide.

AR: Indrek, it is the last day of March, tommorrow is 1 of April, Fools Day, do you expect getting lot of jokes in coming days?

IH: It is actually not so funny that we still have SOOO much snow left. Snow has been smelting very slowly this year, actually there has been five times already warme periods, but then there has been snowing more too. Let us say that the situation for flooding is quite crazy.

AR: So are you afraid that flood reach your stable and you need to build rafts for your cows?

IH: Yeaah, it looks very much like this, again. It is not a funny and easy work actually.

AR: Do you think that there will be as high water as last year?

IH: I still do hope that it will be at least little bit less than in 2010. But if it rises even higher… of course we are not able to do anything in nature it will be, as it will be. I have just looked today my in my weather notebooks, that there was similar late winter in 1997, when it was still cold in the middle of Apil. Still, it is very seldom that in 1 of Aprill there is no water yet in the river, but so much snow.

AR: I passed Riisa village on the way here and saw first White storks already on the chimneys. Have your storks arrived?

IH: No, not yet. But time is right now, all goose arrived already since Sunday, and Lapwings (Vanellus vanellus)…

AR: But what about the Icebreaker?

IH: No, I have not seen Wagtail (Motacilla alba) yet.

AR: If he will arrive then ice will go…

IH: Ice will go anyway now, no more long waiting, couple of nights and everything starts to smelt and flood.

AR: So, when do you start guiding canoeing groups on flooded landscape?

IH: In two weeks, about 13.-14 of April.

    AR: Cool!

    IH: Indeed, very cool!
